Economic Development

Welcome to Big Lake, Minnesota!

Big Lake is one of the youngest and fastest growing cities in the State of Minnesota. Established and prospective businesses will have a positive development and/or expansion experience including: a welcoming and friendly relationship with city staff, local and regional financial incentives, a workforce with Midwest talent and ethics, variety of housing types, strong school district, access to a full service community hospital, and opportunities to participate in the many exciting community events that Big Lake has found to be successful. The City of Big Lake is primed for business success!

Past utility infrastructure investments have prepared Big Lake for capacity expansion for years to come, and have created unique opportunities to reduce risk for developers. Multiple sites have been certified under the Shovel Ready Program that offer public utilities, three-phased electricity, along with a high-speed fiber broadband connection.

After years of exploring locations and fine tuning our business plan, Lupulin Brewing Company knew we found our home in Big Lake after a meeting with the Mayor, City Council, and City Administrator in January 2014. As entrepreneurs in a capital intensive business, we needed a strong commitment from the City to support our vision and assist us to realize our dream of starting up a micobrewery & taproom... Big Lake rolled out the "red carpet.: Four years later, we continue to have strong commitment and support to grow Lupulin Brewing... - Jeff Zierdt and Matt Schiller, Co-Founders of Lupulin Brewing

LISI MEDICAL Remmele has been proud to call Big Lake its home for more than 20 years. We've found the workforce in Big Lake and the surrounding communities to be a key asset to our success. The Big Lake Schools have been a great partner as we've rolled out our Youth Apprenticeship Program. We've also been pleased with the welcoming/open for business approach of the City of Big Lake. It played a role in our decision to double our manufacturing space in the City. - Jeff Noren, Vice President Sales & Marketing for LISI MEDICAL Remmele
