Please help us keep both Big Lake and Lake Mitchell clean and pollution free as this can cause uncontrolled weed and algae growth. Did you know that anything that goes into the storm sewer within four blocks of either lake enters directly into those lakes? Below are some tips from the Big Lake Community Lakes Association that will help keep our lakes clean:
- Bring a plastic bag with you when walking your dog and clean up after them
- Do not pour any liquids down the storm sewer drains
- Refrain from using soaps or polishes with chemicals when washing your vehicle in a driveway that drains into the street
- Refrain from fertilizing grass near the street or shoreline, and if you are fertilizing, choose to use phosphorous free fertilizers
- Do not blow grass clippings into the street or onto the sidewalk as this can also be a safety hazard for pedestrians and motorcyclists
- Keep eroded bare soil from washing into the street
Thank you for your help in keeping Big Lake beautiful!
