Reserve Officers

The City of Big Lake is currently recruiting Police Reserves! The Police Reserves are an extension of the Police Department. A Police Reserve is a non-sworn volunteer who assists the Police with certain emergencies or critical events, Spud Fest, Night to Unite and other community engagement activities. Police Reserves Duties:

  • Patrol city in marked squad
  • Respond to major traffic incidents
  • Traffic control/accident scene protection
  • Community event security
  • Vehicle lockouts
  • Motorist assists
  • Subject searches
  • Animal impoundments
  • Business patrols
  • Vacation house watches
  • Search and rescue

Who Can Apply?

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High School Degree or GED
  • Possess a Valid MN Driver's License
  • Pass Criminal Background Check 
  • Professional person looking to give back to their community
  • Must Live within 30 minutes of city
  • Requirement to volunteer minimum of 8 hours per month
  • Attend monthly training meeting

  • Use of force
  • Taser, mace, baton
  • Record management
  • Radio operation
  • Subject searches
  • Officer safety
